Krzysztof Kieślowski - Everything Perfect
Camera Buff (1979)
Krzysztof Kieślowski was a polish film maker, who started his career directing documentaries. He is well known for his creative thinking and freedom of handling complex scripts during the time of communist party in Poland.
"Camera buff" or "Amator" is one of his best works which won the grand prize at the Moscow International Film Festival. The movie seems very much personal experiences of Krzysztof Kieślowski during the difficult times in Poland. The film is about an ordinary factory worker who turns into a creative artist. Kieślowski is clearly showing how a man can experience the freedom if he can do what he loves, more over how our life is controlled by obsession. The performance given by Jerzy Stuhr is terrific and he is one the good actors who Kieślowski often used for key roles in his films. This movie shows the life of a filmmaker, and how much control you have or not have on what you film. Sometimes it is, really a close study of film making.
The Double life of Veronique (1991)
Music, Divinity, Cinematography- beautifully and thoughtfully created international masterpiece work of Krzysztof Kieślowski. Its very precious, very soft, and shines like a pearl. There is a saying that each of us is matched exactly somewhere in the world, who can feel the same and share same thoughts. "The Double life of Veronique" is a film about a woman living in Poland and the exact same living in France. The music score of this film is fantastic. Opening music of this film is of divine quality. Great cinematography, great use of light. Good music, good visuals and excellent acting from Irene Jacob makes it a perfect pleasure for the viewers. "The Double Life of Veronique" is a film that definitely deserves to be seen and can view any number of times.
Blue, White, Red (Trilogy- Three colours 1993-1994)
Masterpiece work of Krzysztof Kieślowski. All of these three stories takes place in contemporary French society, so the colour of French flag is taken as BLUE, WHITE and RED. Once again the beautiful visuals and music touches every heart.
First of Three colours"Blue" is a story of a woman in France coping with her life after the death of her husband and child. Blue colour from the French flag is used to depict the theme of Liberty. The woman tries to gain liberty from her memories and her emotions, but finds it is not an easy task. Cinematography plays an excellent part in this movie. Visuals are stunning. Performance of Juliette Binoche as Julie is remarkable.
Second of Three colours "White" is a story of a man deals with the married life when his wife wants to divorce him because he is not a good performer in love making. Again beautiful visuals, especially the shots outside the church is stunning. The music is a key element in this movie too. Careful editing makes it worth watching from start to finish like a thriller. Kieślowski chose the white from the French flag to depict the theme of Equality. If there is no equality in marriage, the marriage fails. Great acting by Zbigniew Zamachowsk as Karol and Julie Delpy as Dominique.
Third of Three colours "Red" is a story of a model who come to know that her neighbour is keen on invading people's privacy. "Red" is one of the most involving and emotionally effective movies. Red colour of the flag stands for fraternity as a theme in this movie. Stunning visuals and music. Kieślowski's last film, and this is a movie which stands extraordinary - creatively and psychologically till date.
Its not easy to compare which of these Three colours, the best movie, because each of them has its own quality, expressions, and thoughts. Krzysztof Kieślowski is truly a mastermind. Most of his films are taken as subjects for studies in film schools. He was truly a creative film maker, who used ultimate freedom in doing his films, whatever rest of the world thinks.
"It comes from a deep-rooted conviction that if there is anything worthwhile doing for the sake of culture, then it is touching on subject matters and situations which link people, and not those that divide people. There are too many things in the world which divide people, such as religion, politics, history, and nationalism. If culture is capable of anything, then it is finding that which unites us all. And there are so many things which unite people. It doesn't matter who you are or who I am, if your tooth aches or mine, it's still the same pain. Feelings are what link people together, because the word 'love' has the same meaning for everybody. Or 'fear', or 'suffering'. We all fear the same way and the same things. And we all love in the same way. That's why I tell about these things, because in all other things I immediately find division."-Krzysztof Kieślowski -
